Lean-to with roots

In this special open fireplace/lean-to ( laavu in finnish) the traditional forms are further cultivated and some sophisticated details are added.
The fan-shaped form of the lean-to is widening to the frontside, resting upon the natural stones. The carrying forms of the roof are curved with saddle corners and the roof is covered with mos.
The construction of the roof is made from natural rounded ceiling joists and the tough root hooks are firmly supporting the entire roof. The structure and the floor are made from solid pine planks. The front opening of the lean-to is decorated with massive roots of the tree in the form of hook. For a finishing touch pine wooden lean-to is treated with tar.”
